“Don’t think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It’s self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can’t try to do things. You simply must do things.” – Ray Bradbury
Colours and forms sneak into my mind – its part of how I work. I will look at a blank sheet of paper or board, and a colour will present itself.
In a recent summer, the pigment ‘Hansa Yellow’ appeared in a lot in my work. It had first cropped up in darkest January, in a response to a prompt in Cheryl Taves ’30 day sketchbook challenge’. She asked: “What comforts you”?
As if from nowhere this yellow-filled circle arrived.

For the rest of the summer Hansa Yellow continued to appear in my work. See ‘Work’ on this site.
Do you find that yellow is uplifting?
