OILS

Jacky Bowring in ‘Melancholy and the landscape’ says:

Abstract art.... provides a challenge for the viewer to look within themselves for a reaction’.

Ruth's oils have always been abstractions of landscape or favourite places like Blackshore (Southwold harbour and boatyard). The pieces are strong in form and energy, whether that is of calm, melancholy, or liveliness. Early oils were on canvas, but currently wood is her preferred support.
